From Menotti to Today


The Importance of American Opera

Part of the Community Conversations series

In partnership with the University of Miami, FGO will present a discussion and performance looking at contemporary American opera from Menotti to the present. The panelists will be joined by students from the University of Miami and by Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artists to present an interactive performance as the audience journeys from 1950 to 2015.

Presenters Include:

  • Alan O. Johnson, Associate Professor, Vocal Performance, and Program Director, University of Miami’s Frost Opera Theater
  • Karen Henson, Associate Professor, Musicology, at University of Miami’s Frost School of Music
  • Dr. Julie Maykowski, FGO’s Director of Artistic Administration and Head of the Young Artist Program
  • With musical performances by University of Miami students and Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artists
