By GIACOMO PUCCINI
Libretto by GIUSEPPE ADAMI and RENATO SIMONI

A majestic Turandot will close our opera season—but not our season fully—with superstars Roberto Alagna, Aleksandra Kurzak, and Adam Lau under the direction of Jeffrey Buchman and the digital design of superstar video artist Keith Lissner. This is the perfect way to celebrate the centennial of Puccini’s masterpiece, which was created in April 1926.

We are bringing the historical dragon set by Alan Charles Klein, but with a twist of futuristic technology. It is the past and the future meeting in a very poetic way for our beautiful Turandot, graced by absolute superstars. Additionally, we are announcing that Jennifer Rowley and Dominick Chenes will also join us for the roles of Turandot and Calaf. Four stars for this incredible piece under the baton of Jonathan Brandani, authentically born in Lucca, the same place where Puccini himself was born.

This is all under the auspices of the Puccini Foundation in Lucca, and Luigi Viani will join us to share insights about this final work of Puccini. Since Puccini passed away before finishing the opera, and Alfano completed it, there will be a very moving moment as we honor the composer’s legacy and his wishes

This opera features the famous “Nessun Dorma,” immortalized by Pavarotti, and it’s a wonderful way to celebrate Women’s Month with a story about a powerful female leader. It’s a magical, poetic piece that transports us to an imaginary China, a fairytale brought to life by the stunning design of Keith Lissner and the storytelling of Jeffrey Buchman, who designed and staged our very popular and incredibly visual Magic Flute last season, all set to Puccini’s eternal music.

Supported by the Italian consul; there will be more than 150 people on stage, making this one of the largest choral and orchestral productions ever, complete with an enormous array of gongs that you rarely see outside of Madama Butterfly.

Sung in Italian with English and Spanish projected translations
